It's Shark Week...

Not that I normally watch Shark Week, but it got me thinking how close it is to school time! I'm sure the kiddos see the start date much like a shark sees it's prey - circling and closing in. So, in an effort to bring some humor:

On a more serious note, I'm basically ready to have the students arrive. My room is done, and I can't wait to start the year! I've got plenty of new ideas, projects, and possibilities on the horizon!

It's about that time...

My mom always said time flies.... I really now understand! It seems like it should be the end of May - not the beginning of August! School is right around the corner, and there is still plenty of things to do.

I've got to go set up my room - Monday - the waxed floors will be finished, so I can FINALLY get in.  So, until then working from home, organizing IEP information, creating charts / lessons, collaborating, and still researching new ways to teach.

(Forgot to mention - they never mention all the work teachers do outside of school in college!)  I love it, but boy, the time is gone before you know it - and I still have a list of summer to do's that I want to get done.

If you wonder what my class theme is for the year, wander on over to my website: https://sites.google.com/site/fmsmielke/

That's all for now... looks like the dog needs to go out and play some more!

So... school is almost out.

It is crunch time. Most students are doing fine, but some are starting to struggle to stay focused - I'm thinking it has to do with the nice weather we have been having! They seem to be forgetting more stuff than remember to bring it.

Upside, we are having fun reflecting on the year... lots of little memories and we have started working on our class motto board.

Welcome

In an attempt to create more classroom interactions with parents, I'm starting this blog....

No, I don't expect it to take off over night, in fact, I'm betting it will take most of the summer to line up what I intend to do with it. However, I know I want to be posting more about class events, and encourage parents to also become involved with their child's edmodo. (Because that's where the day - to - day stuff is!) Also, I'm tech heavy with my school website. Main goal: if you can't find it between the website, edmodo, or here, it doesn't exist!
